Hornsby Park’s First Stage Now Open to Public

The first stage of Hornsby Park has officially opened, marking a significant step in the transformation of a former quarry into a large-scale public bushland destination in Sydney’s north.

The newly unveiled Crusher Plant Precinct is the initial section accessible to the public, offering an early look at a broader project that will continue to unfold in stages. Positioned off Quarry Road in Hornsby, the precinct blends industrial heritage with natural landscapes.

A key feature of the site is the Southern Lookout, which provides expansive views across the former quarry and surrounding bushland. Designed with accessibility in mind, the lookout highlights the dramatic scale of the site and its geological past.

Once home to heavy industry, the area has been reimagined into a recreational space featuring open lawns, picnic areas, shelters and barbecue facilities. The precinct retains connections to its industrial history, reflected in its name and layout.

Access to the site is enhanced by the upgraded Heritage Steps, which create a steep bushwalking route linking nearby facilities, including Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre, to established walking trails such as the Blue Gum Walk and the Great North Walk.

The opening was marked by a formal ceremony attended by council representatives and state officials, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the project, supported in part by NSW Government funding.

Further stages of Hornsby Park are currently under construction and will be delivered progressively. Planned additions include walking and cycling tracks, new lookouts, cycling facilities and expanded recreational spaces.
