Sport and physical activities are important aspects of school life at Hillside Public School. This year all of our students successfully participated in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge during Term 3. The students also enjoyed Fruit and Vegetable Month and have enjoyed harvesting vegetables from our garden.
Once again our outstanding students have succeeded on the sporting field. Our Touch Football Team came an impressive fourth in NSW in the recent Small Schools Competition. The students displayed great sportsmanship throughout the five match competition.
Our mixed relay team won at the Sydney North Area Carnival at Homebush in an amazing record time late last term. They will now be competing at the State Competition early in November. A wonderful achievement for our awesome runners.
This term all of our students will be participating in a variety of sporting activities led by Year 9 coaches from Galston High School. The high school students will be coaching our students in tennis, soccer and tag football. It is such a beneficial program for our students as well as the students from Galston High School.
We were fortunate in receiving a Sporting School Grant for Term 4 enabling our students to participate in weekly gymnastics lessons. The program will be delivered by specialist teachers trained in gymnastics. The students are looking forward to learning new skills and strengthening skills they have already learnt.
Every two years Hillside students entertain their families, friends and the local community members with a pantomime. This year the production of Tinsel and Tea Towels will be performed on Monday 10th December at a matinee performance at 11:30am and the evening performance at 6:30pm. Every student has an acting and singing role in the pantomime. An advantage of being in a small school! Music and drama are integrated into the Hillside classroom programs and students enjoy the opportunities afforded them in performing for their parents and friends. Please join us on Monday 10th December and see our wonderful students shine on stage.
Our students are fortunate being able to learn French taught by our dedicated French teacher. A highlight was our French Day where the students served afternoon tea and entertained the many visitors with songs and a short comedy play.
