What an exciting term 2 our students had. We finished the term with a mufti day celebrating 100 Days of learning at school this year. Students were involved in a variety of individual and small group STEAM activities. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a successful semester.
On the sporting field our students have achieved outstanding results. Hillside was once again champion school on handicap, at the Beecroft Zone Cross Country. Our touch football team won its first round game against Maroota and is now looking forward to travelling to Lithgow to play the second round game against Ilford.
We were very fortunate to have the Year 9 students from Galston High School coach our students in a variety of sports. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn skills in a greater variety of sports. Thank you to Galston HS for enabling our students to participate in such a worthwhile program.
Through the Sporting Schools Grant the students were able to participate in an 8 week program where they learnt the skills needed to play hockey. The students thoroughly enjoyed the fast paced and energetic sessions.
The Science unit of study for the K to 2 students included the study of sea creatures. The highlight and culmination of the unit was an excursion to the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour. The students in Years 3 to 6 were fortunate to accompany the younger students on the excursion. The behaviour of all the students was exemplary.
Two of our Year 6 students were given the opportunity to participate in an enrichment program for stage 3 students at Long Neck Lagoon Environmental Study Centre. There they learnt how to read topographic maps and how to use a GPS. A wonderful opportunity for our students.
As you drive by the school you will be able to see our new electronic sign which we were able to obtain through a grant from the State Government. This will be an extremely useful resource for the school and the local community.
We are currently accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2020 and other grades as well. If you want a school where your child is not lost in a large class and is not treated as a number, come to Hillside. We will consider out of area enrolments.
