Hillside Public School Ends 2025 with Memorable Activities

The final weeks of 2025 have delivered a lively and memorable close to the school year at Hillside Public School, with students embracing a mix of learning, movement and shared experiences that have extended well beyond the classroom.

For Years 3 to 6, karate lessons with Sensei Jordan from Black Belt Martial Arts Hornsby have proven popular on the timetable. Beyond the kicks and blocks, students have been building confidence, focus and practical personal safety skills — lessons that will stay with them long after the mats are packed away.

Outdoor learning also took centre stage during a visit to Canoelands Orchard, where tractor rides, fruit picking and old-fashioned yard games were paired with hands-on lessons about pollinators and the natural environment. Under clear skies, students enjoyed a day that blended curiosity with simple fun.

The learning journey continued further afield for Year 5 and 6 students, who travelled to Canberra for an immersive excursion through Australia’s civic and cultural landmarks. From Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial to the interactive science of Questacon, the trip offered a deeper understanding of the nation’s history and democracy, alongside plenty of friendship and laughter.

Back at school, the calendar is filling quickly with end-of-year traditions, including the election of 2026 school captains, the presentation assembly, Year 6 farewell, school disco, fun day and the ever-popular talent quest — a showcase of the creativity and confidence nurtured throughout the year.

As Hillside Public School looks ahead to 2026, enrolments are now open from Kindergarten to Year 6, with out-of-area applications welcome. The school prides itself on small class sizes, close connections, and opportunities for every child to shine, offering a learning environment often described by families as feeling like home.

The year draws to a close with gratitude extended to students, staff and families for their shared commitment to learning and community. With the holidays now in sight, the Hillside community heads into the break, reflecting on a year rich in experiences and looking forward to returning in 2026 for another chapter of growth, discovery, and achievement.
