Hills Hawks Football Club is a community focused club that has been part of the Galston community for 49 years. President of the Club, Ian Robertson, says he is very proud to be associated with such a Club. “Hills Hawks is more than a football club. It’s an organisation that links everyone in the community together. Players and parents are provided with a way to connect together and meet others from the community.”
The fact that the club now has over 500 registered players, including our first Under 5 team, is testament to this community need.
Hills Hawks FC relies heavily on the support of both volunteers and sponsors to help it continue to provide this community service. Many thanks must go to the continuing major sponsorship of the Glenorie RSL Club as well as the support from Bendigo Bank. This year, Hills Hawks were delighted to have Dean Willemsen, the grandson of one our founding and life members Harry Willemsen, provide sponsorship through his company Clearstate. The Club is proud to have Dean on board as he continues the family involvement and support to the club.
The Club is thankful to its other long term sponsors Hills District Farm Equipment and Hills Storage. Other sponsors include CVW Engineering, Turrell Building, Spa and BBQ Barn, Chizzos Pizzeria and Coppernest.
This sponsorship money helps keep down the cost of registrations and is used to provide support to both players and coaches. The Club provides players with professional training through its successful Kickstart Programme. It also has Paul Wade, ex Captain of the Socceroos, provide teams with individual training to improve their game. All of these programmes are geared towards improving the skills of our players.
This development of our players means that our senior players are able to play in the Premier League competition. This is the highest level of competition in the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association in which we play. Club’s are only invited to play at this level upon successfully winning All Age and Super League competitions. These games bring an exciting element to Hayes Park on home games.
After 10 years of successfully running an in-house ladies social 6 a-side competition on Saturday afternoon at Hayes Park, Hills Hawks FC has commenced its first O35 Men’s 6-aside competition. After a couple of years in the planning, the Men’s O35 Social Competition has finally kicked off and is flourishing. This has proven to be a very successful competition, giving local men the chance to continue playing soccer in a competitive but fun environment. No doubt this competition will continue to grow each year and be as successful as our Ladies social competition.
Every year, Hills Hawks FC holds a Mini’s Gala day which is run by our Vice President-Mini’s, Peter Grocott. This year we had 58 teams register with some teams as far away as the Central Coast region, North Shore and South-Western Sydney. It is the biggest day on the Club calendar and a big thanks to everyone who helped out.
Hills Hawks FC upcoming events include the participation in the Purple Socks Campaign in support of Pancreatic Cancer. On 23rd June, participating players will wear purple socks in a bid to raise necessary research funds as well as bring awareness to the community. For those that have not purchased socks, donations will be able to be made on the day
The last social event on the 2018 Calendar is our Comedy Night. In order to promote Club spirit, Hills Hawks is hosting a Comedy Night on 28th July at the Glenorie RSL Club. Tickets will be available soon to purchase for only $20 per ticket. With only limited seating capacity, be sure to get in quick if you wish to purchase tickets.
Hills Hawks FC continues to be a successful football club thanks to its many volunteers and sponsors. We thank everyone who has been and continues to be part of the football community. We can’t wait until next year when we celebrate our 50th Anniversary!
“Go the Hawkies…”.
