Hills Building & Design Awards offer invaluable support to industry innovators

Entries for the 2016 Hills Building & Design Awards close in just six weeks. Winners of the prestigious awards will gain invaluable industry recognition, reward and publicity, distinguishing themselves as the business of choice in the eyes of future clients.

This year’s awards have been expanded to include two new award categories; Residential Bathrooms and People’s Choice Award. Both awards were instated after feedback in favour of expanding the residential categories award and making the awards more interactive.

After applications close on 17 June, the judging process will begin, with finalists to be announced in August.

Cameron McKenzie Group Manager for Environment & Planning at The Hills Shire Council said judging the competition entries are one of the most enjoyable parts of the awards process.

“During judging we get the chance to see how local projects, small businesses and nationally recognised companies are pushing the boundaries of innovative design and construction,” Mr McKenzie said.

“In my job I see a lot of proposals and plans, so it’s nice to get the opportunity to look at these projects in their completed form, to see how the project plans have been realised and to see what new and innovative techniques have been used,” he said.

The Hills Building & Design Awards are not only open to residential projects; there are categories for commercial projects too.

“In the last twelve months we approved over 1500 DAs, many of which are commercial properties. It would be great to see a high number of these properties entered in the awards and in the running to receive deserved recognition and the prestige this accolade confers on its winners,” Mr McKenzie said.

“Ultimately this award is about showcasing the outstanding nature of design and construction across The Hills region, offering project designers and builders the chance to be recognised within their industry as well as The Hills community.”
