Hawkesbury local Troy Scribberas walked for 12 hours to raise awareness for road safety and remember those deeply affected by road trauma on Sunday, 30 March 2025.
Troy’s memorial walk is part of Hannah’s Blue Butterflies Road Safety Awareness Walk, and every step aims to highlight the importance of responsible driving practices and safe travel on roads.
Hannah’s Blue Butterflies Road Safety Awareness is an organisation founded by couple Diane and Graeme McMurtrie to honour the memory of their 19-year-old daughter Hannah after a terrible head-on collision outside Taree on the Mid-North Coast in March 2013.
The walk will begin at 5 am and take place in Hawkesbury, beginning at McGrath’s Hill and proceeding to Ebenezer, Sackville North, Cattai, and returning to McDonald’s McGrath’s Hill, New South Wales.
“I anticipate that the walk will take approximately 12 hours to complete, with scheduled stops to acknowledge roadside fatalities and hazardous locations,” Troy said.
“I will be wearing the distinctive attire provided by Hannah’s Blue Butterflies and sharing live updates throughout the journey. Having read a heartfelt letter from Hannah’s mother last month, I felt compelled to contribute to raising awareness about road safety.”
“If you see me walking, please offer your support with a friendly toot. However, I encourage you to visit the Hannah’s Blue Butterflies page and engage in a conversation with your children about the importance of safe driving practices and the devastating consequences of road accidents.
“Regardless of the journey you embark on, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure a safe and successful trip.”
