Glenorie Probus Club Activities

Southern highlands

This month Glenorie Probus Club had a 4 day visit to Jimmy’s Hideaway at Sutton Forest. All attending had a great experience. The trip down was via the tourist drive through Bowral and Corbett Gardens and the display of tulips, colourful flowers and old trees.

They arrived at the 135acre property with its green pastures, animals, water holes and grapevines and chapel. The evening was very pleasant with great companions and a BBQ dinner.

The next day was spent sightseeing at Bundanoon and Echo Point in Morton National Park where there was magnificent views of the steep ridges and deep valleys of the National Park. Then to Berrima for more relaxation before returning to the Hideaway for another Excellent Dinner.

The agenda for the Wednesday was firstly a visit to Fitzroy Falls and the spectacular views. This was followed by a visit to Robertson Cheese Factory for an enjoyable morning tea. Following this the group moved to Bowral via the Bong Bong Race Course. The afternoon was spent exploring the town before returning to the Hideway for yet another fine meal. The next day we returned home with many travelling via the NSW Railway Museum at Thirlmere. Overall all who attended agreed they had had a wonderful time in the Southern Highlands.

This month the club had continued the policy of variety and again had the guest speakers came from their own members. Ranford and Julie Elsey volunteer some time each year liasing with Frontier Services to help farmers in outback rural Australia. Frontier Services comprises Outback Links working with remote farmers and work with Aboriginal Communities, Mining Communities and Outback Chaplain services. They showed pictures of their team building, gardening, farmwork, painting etc for farmers in real need.

Their timing was such they were able to attend some of the concerts at the Big Red Bash. A very interesting talk from a couple who give up their time to help others in need.

The Club meets at 11.00am on the 4th Wednesday of the month at Glenorie RSL and new members are welcome.
