Glenorie Probus Club Activities

Glenorie Probus continued with its objective having varied and interesting activities for its members. The main tour for the month was a visit to the Blue Mountains tourist spots. Having left Glenorie the attendees reassembled at the Scenic World car park at Katoomba.

The weather was good so the views over the three sisters and the Jamison Valley could be appreciated. The ride on the Scenic Skyway was then taken and the views could be appreciated from different angles as the ride was taken across and back.

Following this they moved tho the Scenic Railway where they took the Cable Car ride into Valley enjoying more spectacular views on the trip down. In the valley the Boardwalk was followed until they arrived at the Scenic Railway. On the way they passed the old coal mine activities which led to the opening of access to the valley.

Having arrived at the scenic railway stop they then joined the train and returned to the top, part of the way being via a tunnel. Following a visit to Sublime Point and Conservation Hut, with their great views, the tour returned to Glenorie to complete another enjoyable day.

This month the club had continued the policy of variety and had the guest speakers came from their own members. Barry Sinfield bought his 2011 Talbot to the meeting for all to see. The car known as “Tilly” is beautifully restored and all had a chance to have a good look.

Barry explained how all the old mechanics worked including such features as the acetylene lights. A fascinating opportunity to see a working model veteran car restored to its original state. This was then followed by Helen and John Cardy who took us to their trip to Waitomo, New Zealand where the visited the lost world.

This involved dressing safely and abseiling for 25 minutes down a 100 metre chasm to land in a huge cavern carved by an underground river and supporting a large variety of vegetation. After walking through the fascinating scenery they then had to climb a 30 metre steel rope ladder to the surface. They had a memorable trip. The meeting was enjoyed by all.

The Club meets on the at 11.00am on the 4th Wednesday of the month at Glenorie RSL and new members are welcome. Contact Wendy Black on 9653 1022 or email [email protected]
