Progress is being made on the knockdown and rebuild of Glenorie Pony Club, with Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michele Byrne laying a horseshoe in one of the steps at the new facility.
The historic club, which was started in the mid-1950s, had introduced generations of Hills residents to ponies over the last 60 years.
“Every little girl loves the idea of riding a pony and the Glenorie Pony Club has given countless residents exposure to ponies for the first time,” Mayor Byrne said.
“Whether it’s horse riding, dressage, show jumping, show riding, sporting, mounted games, trail riding, polocrosse and more – many have learnt at Glenorie Pony Club.”
The Club’s Vice President Wayne Pernice said they cater for all abilities but have a focus on beginners.
“At Glenorie Pony Club, we pride ourselves on how well we cater for new members,” Mr Pernice said.
“While we are proud of winning all the Club trophies at the Zone 26 Jamboree (for the third year running), our greatest achievement is how well we develop our new and beginner members.”
“With the generous assistance of The Hills Council, our families and sponsors, we have built one of the best resourced and most successful Pony Clubs in NSW, if not Australia.”
The Glenorie Pony Club will officially re-open in November 2016.
