Galston RFS and International Womens Day 2025

Galston RFS and International Womens Day – 8th March 2025

The theme of the IWD 2025 #AccelerateAction is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation. According to the World Economic Forum, it will take until the year 2158, roughly 5 generations from now, to reach full gender parity. IWD belongs to all groups everywhere and is inclusive without being exclusive.

One of the biggest ways to help #AccelerateAction is to ‘Support the Supporters’. So as a Supporter, Galston Rural Fire Brigade will be reaching out to women and girls in our community, to come along to an All Women information and experience day at our Johnstone Road Fire Station on Saturday 8th March. At the RFS we support women and girls into leadership, decision making and STEM roles and encourage the advancement of women and girls.

You will have access to our station resources, fire trucks and equipment, and try your hand at using water pumps and hoses, and of course a chance to don our stylish RFS Fire Fighting uniform. There are no age restrictions, and we have a very active Junior’s Brigade as well for the teenagers. Coincidently we’re also currently recruiting for members where we will provide education and training on all the latest fire fighting skills and equipment, and our experienced trainers will guide you through the process to gain firefighting qualifications.

Being a Volunteer firefighter takes as much or as little time as you can spare, and you’ll meet some great like-minded people on the journey. You’ll meet Jen, a former Police Officer who is one of our Senior Fire Fighters and part of our Community Engagement Team.

International Women’s day has been an ongoing global event since 1911, and is truly an inclusive, diverse and eclectic moment of impact worldwide, and this year once again we’ll be bringing Galson RFS along to the party.

So don’t be shy grab your mum, a friend or your daughter and come along and get involved, and meet all the fantastic women and girls at Galston Rural Fire Brigade, then maybe you’ll be inspired to become a volunteer and become an IWD Supporter
