Only half way through Term 1 and so much is happening. Each year the whole school participates in a Peer Support program which provides a fun and engaging environment for young people to address issues such as bullying, relationships, and self image. Modules are designed to equip young people with skills to deal proactively with life experiences, develop a sense of self worth and belonging, and to encourage taking responsibility for decisions and actions. This year the students will be participating in a module called ‘Keeping Friends’, which helps to explore the concept of friendship, build relationships and develop skills in empathy and critical thinking. The module contains 8 sessions and during this time Peer Leaders from Year 6 will facilitate small groups of 8-10 younger students, who will work together through a number of structured activities.
Following the success of the annual swimming carnival a courageous and determined Galston Public School team competed in the Beecroft Zone PSSA Swimming Carnival which was held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Homebush recently. The day was a great experience for them. The competition was tough and tiresome, however all the students swam competitively and proudly represented their school. At a school assembly held recently the K-6 members of The Student Representative Council (SRC) were inducted for 2020 and presented with their badges. These students will work with the school principal, the executive team, the teachers and administration teams. They will advocate as student voices in a number of areas this year.
