Five top concerts in 2022 with five more planned for 2023 – happy musical days are here to stay for The Galston Concerts.
Many new faces joined Galston’s customary audience in Galston Uniting Church for the 20th November concert by the NSW Police Big Band – ‘something completely different’ with sounds and styles new for Galston’s concert-goers.
The jazz-swing program capped off a year of otherwise Classical highlights which brought leading professionals and prize-winning young performers from their usual ‘home base’ Opera House and Sydney Conservatorium to play for Hills and Hornsby music lovers.
The 2022 array of strings (including a cello mini-festival), piano, clarinet, guitar and the Galston Uniting’s Forster & Andrews organ will be matched – surpassed – in 2023. Strings programs will include an ‘all violins’ mini-festival with Russian violinist Evgeny Sorkin and a ‘Classic 100 Top 10’ recital with pianist Tonya Lemoh and violist Robert Harris. After COVID disrupted delays Sydney Symphony Principal Harp alumna Louise Johnson will visit to present her ‘World of Harps’ concert of Celtic, jazz and Latin American styles. Sydney Conservatorium staff are shaping a program for flute, oboe, bassoon and piano.
The Galston Concerts will continue to include the popular organ preludes from 1.30pm prior to each concert starting at 2pm. The 2023 dates for your diary are 26th March, 28th May, 23rd July, 10th September and 5th November, all avoiding school holidays or clashes with Hills District arts icons like Jazz at the Pines, Open Gardens, Arcadia Artists Trail.
