A beautiful Sunday morning, recently saw the Friends of Fagan Park meet up with descendants of a local pioneering family, the Cranstons, who donated the 1918 International truck to the Friends as a restoration project in 2017.
Delighted Cranston family members, Megan, Steven and Danielle along with their families and friends visited Fagan Park to view the International truck in its final restoration glory. Huge smiles abounded as they climbed on board and took a ride in the old family truck over to Netherby Homestead.
The truck was heavily modified back in the day to haul sandstone out of a quarry in the NW outskirts of Sydney. It was decided in consultation with the donors, to restore it to its original condition.
It has been a mammoth job! Every single part has been rebuilt by the volunteers with no new parts available. The wheels were the major challenge and expense, using nearly forgotten crafts. All the timber was milled locally and fashioned into the beautiful body you now see.
An absolute credit to all the volunteers and local tradesmen who have donated goods and services. So heartening to see a family’s joy in a long term restoration project by the Friends that our whole community can now enjoy.
Netherby Homestead in Fagan Park is open to every Tuesday 9-4pm and every second Sunday of the month 1-4pm.
