In rural areas Australia wide, Landcare is held in high regard. That’s why being a member of our local group Still Creek Landcare makes me feel good. For a small group, we have achieved lots, like running training courses for residents, articles in the local paper to help landowners, given free native plants to landowners who have removed weeds, tested local creeks for water quality, planted many trees, made and distributed nest boxes for wildlife, planted a wildlife corridor and much other stuff.
We also hold working bees on member’s properties, followed by morning coffee and a gossip. We seem to get more done more quickly when we work together as a group.
At present, we are all hung down and thoroughly depressed because our President has just died of cancer. There has even been talk of closing the group down. This would be a great shame because there is so much left to do.
We need some new members to inject enthusiasm and rev us all up – people who love living in this area, who like the bush and want the best for the birds and animals that live there.
- Perhaps you want to help preserve our local environment?
- Perhaps you don’t know much about nature yet but want to learn more?
- Perhaps you have some good social media skills and could help?
- Perhaps you are a recently retired expert and could share your knowledge with us?
If any of this sounds good, please talk to us. Lift our spirits and help keep the good work going. Save us from closing down!
