Hornsby Shire Offers Free Guided Bushwalks for Locals

Hornsby Shire Council’s Free Guided Bushwalks

Hornsby Shire residents are being urged to swap their screens for scrubs this spring, as the local Council rolls out its popular program of free guided bushwalks. Designed to be an educational, safe, and enjoyable experience, the schedule aims to unlock the natural and cultural heritage of the region’s stunning bushland reserves.

From gentle meanders perfect for absolute beginners to challenging expeditions for seasoned hikers, the program has been curated to appeal to all fitness levels. Knowledgeable local guides will be leading each outing, promising fascinating insights into the unique ecology and history that earned the Shire its ‘Bushland’ moniker.

Hornsby Shire Deputy Mayor Janelle McIntosh enthusiastically encouraged residents to embrace the warmer weather and explore their own backyard. “Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with nature and discover the vibrant landscapes that make our Bushland Shire so special,” Cr McIntosh said. “These guided walks offer a unique opportunity to learn, explore and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends.”

The upcoming itinerary features a diverse range of trails kicking off in September:

  • Wildflower Walk, Berowra Heights – 18th September
  • Wild Investigators Activity, Fagan Park, Galston (ages 7-12) – 9th October
  • Beecroft Reserve Bushwalk, Beecroft – 25th October
  • Crosslands Reserve to Rockyfall Rapids Estuary Bushwalk, Hornsby Heights – 29th November

These seasonal walks are consistently one of the Council’s most sought-after community initiatives. Due to the high demand and limited spots, residents are strongly advised to secure their place early. Bookings for each walk open exactly one month prior to the scheduled date, offering a fair chance for everyone to participate.
