Fred Caterson Reserve Gets New Sports Fields

Work has officially begun on a major transformation of the former Pony Club site at Fred Caterson Reserve, marking the first step in expanding one of the region’s most significant sporting precincts.

The project will deliver three new natural turf playing fields — to be known as fields 7, 8 and 9 — alongside a modern amenities building, additional parking and upgraded access roads. The redevelopment repurposes the former equestrian grounds to help meet mounting demand for outdoor sporting space across The Hills.

The Hills Shire has experienced rapid population growth in recent years, contributing to a shortfall of around 40 sporting fields. With housing targets among the highest in the state, pressure on parks and community infrastructure has intensified.

Under the reserve’s adopted masterplan, the new grounds are earmarked to function as a premier rugby union venue, supporting the development of junior talent while remaining available for a range of community sports.

Council has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Eastwood District Rugby Union Football Club, although field allocations and any elite-level upgrades remain subject to future decisions.

On 14 October 2025, construction was awarded to Glascott Landscape and Civil Pty Ltd, with preliminary site works now underway.

Already home to football and baseball fields, tennis courts, a BMX track, a basketball stadium and other facilities, Fred Caterson Reserve is expected to further strengthen its role as a district-level sporting hub once the new fields are complete.
