Community Celebrates Women of the Homestead at Fagan Park

This Sunday, 5th October, Fagan Park in Galston will come alive from 10 AM to 4 PM as the Friends of Fagan Park host an engaging community event in the heritage precinct.

The highlight of the day will be a special exhibition titled “Women of the Homestead…the Unsung Heroines,” which seeks to shine a light on the vital role women played in managing households and raising families during the early 1900s.

Set against the backdrop of the historically significant Netherby Homestead, the exhibition will feature fascinating displays that include traditional laundry practices, sewing, embroidery, as well as beautifully crafted christening gowns and dresses, each accompanied by poignant stories from the era.

In addition to the exhibition, local community groups will set up market-style tables, offering a glimpse into the rich history of the area. The Hornsby Historical Society and the Dural and District Historical Society will have informative displays, while the Galston CWA will provide a variety of goods for sale. Attendees can also enjoy fresh produce from The Persimmon Place and find an assortment of jams, plants, and bric-a-brac from the Friends of Fagan Park.

Car enthusiasts will not be left out, as the event will showcase a fleet of heritage trucks, tractors, and small machinery, alongside a special appearance from “Puff,” the vintage 1942 Gorge Firetruck. The FE and FC Holden Car Club will also be on hand, displaying their impressive collection of classic cars.

For those looking to refuel, refreshments will include coffee, tea, and a beloved sausage sizzle. It is advisable for attendees to bring cash for individual market table purchases.

This promises to be a wonderful day out for the community, celebrating local history and the contributions of women throughout the years.
