The Dural Bocce Club welcomed top-tier players and officials from across New South Wales in September for the Bocce Australia Roadshow, a high-profile event showcasing the sport’s growth and competitive edge in Australia.
Clubs including Liverpool Catholic Club, Club Marconi, and Cooma Bocce Sporting Club sent representatives to the Dural courts, where the spotlight fell on an intensive coaching session for Australia’s leading junior athletes. The session was led by French national coach Phillipe DeSousa, whose expertise drew praise from participants eager to refine their technique ahead of future international competitions.
Many of the attending athletes recently represented Australia at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, where their performances propelled the national team to 7th place globally. Attention now turns to the 2029 World Games in Karlsruhe, Germany, with development and coaching a clear priority.
The event highlighted the technical sophistication of bocce, including a demonstration of Volo — a precision form of the game that demands athleticism and finesse as players launch the ball underarm at the target pallino.
Off the courts, delegates participated in vital education sessions, including a Sports Integrity Australia presentation on supplement use and drug testing procedures, reinforcing the sport’s commitment to fair play. Another session introduced UCAN2, a program dedicated to increasing participation among women and girls in bocce.
The Bocce Australia Roadshow at Dural underscored the sport’s inclusive appeal, showcasing a game that welcomes players of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds while raising Australia’s profile on the world stage.
