DOGS – HELPING CHILDREN TO READ

Four new Story Dogs have recently qualified and are about to start work encouraging reading with children in schools in this area. They will be working in Galston Public School, Mount Colah Public School and other schools in the area to be appointed, mostly with year two pupils. Children really enjoy reading to non-judgmental dogs, making it relaxing and fun and developing their reading skills and a love of reading. If you have a well behaved dog who likes being with children and you could spare about two hours a week to work in a local school please contact me. Lots of local schools do not have a Story Dog and they need one!

Story Dogs is a registered charity. Expenses are covered by sponsorship of the dogs which costs just $500 a year. Dogs Lollipop and Indah are looking for sponsors who can be individuals or businesses. Zoe, Luna and Rosie already have sponsors thanks to the generosity of Galston Veterinary Clinic, Dr Steve Fearnside and Simon and Jackie Blueler. Sponsors’ names are printed on the dogs’ vests which provide a good advertising medium for the sponsor. If you would like to sponsor one of these dogs please contact Area Coordinator Val Wright: email: [email protected] Ph: 9653 2386.
