The Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre is set to become a vibrant hub of contemporary art from September 12 to 28, as it hosts this year’s Hornsby Art Prize Finalists’ Exhibition.
Organized by Hornsby Shire Council in collaboration with the Hornsby Art Society, the exhibition will showcase the remarkable talents of the 2025 finalists, featuring 73 exceptional artworks selected from a record 415 entries from across the nation.
With a generous total prize pool of $23,000, including a prestigious $10,000 major prize, the Hornsby Art Prize has garnered impressive national attention, solidifying its status as a premier event in the Australian artistic calendar.
Hornsby Shire Deputy Mayor Janelle McIntosh said the exhibition is a highlight on the local cultural calendar.
“We’re proud to host an event that brings such a high calibre of contemporary art to our community,” she said.
“The Hornsby Art Prize not only celebrates artistic excellence but also provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to share their work with a wider audience. Congratulations to all the finalists – your creativity and talent are truly inspiring.”
The exhibition will feature works curated by a distinguished judging panel, including Tim Braham, Director of Gosford Regional Gallery, and notable artist Stephen Hall. Chris Beard, President of Hornsby Art Society, remarked on the continuous rise in entry quality, indicating that this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the best yet.
Winners of the Hornsby Art Prize, including the coveted Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award, will be unveiled at an award ceremony on Friday, September 12, marking a highlight of the exhibition period. The gallery will be open to the public from September 12 to 28, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 4 PM, with free entry for all.
