Despite his lack of experience in comedy, Kurt and his group believe in the importance of bringing small moments of joy to people’s lives and commend the confidence associated with stand-up improv: “This is a unique chance to build your skills, showcase your talents and have an impact on the wider community. Laughter has great healing potential and brings people together. Research into the benefits of humour has also shown its ability to reframe shared suffering into positive experiences”.

Kurt also hopes that through the public’s participation in the club, he and his fellow comedians will be able to raise funds for charity. However, this is all dependent on the club’s success as he said: “This is a vulnerable time for our group’s existence as the interest of newcomer’s will determine the longevity of comedy in Western Sydney, so it’s now or never!”.

If you’re ready to watch a few laughs for free, Kurt is looking to expand the group to fortnightly or even weekly. Currently, the group meets at the Castle Hill Tavern at 25 Victoria Avenue, from 10:30am to 11:30am on some Sundays until they build their numbers. You can connect with Kurt by joining the Facebook group “Hills Cheeky Labs Comedy Night” or by contacting him at [email protected].
