Celebrating Community and Craft: Kirrily Jordan’s Weaving Journey

In the heart of Australia’s red center, Galston’s own textile artist Kirrily Jordan has spent the past year weaving more than just threads. She completed an ambitious community weaving project that culminated in an extraordinary display of handmade lanterns.

Her journey began with a vision to engage local communities through creativity. Collaborating with Yipirinya School and other local groups, she introduced the art of weaving to more than 250 participants. People from all walks of life came together to connect, share stories, and create something beautiful.

Celebrating Community and Craft: Kirrily Jordan's Weaving Journey

After parading the finished lanterns at the Desert Festival, participants assembled them into a giant woven installation which went on to become a finalist in the prestigious Alice Prize.

Now, Kirrily is bringing her wealth of experience and infectious enthusiasm back home. On 28th July, she will host a basket weaving workshop at Wallarobba Art Centre in Hornsby.

This workshop offers a chance to learn the simple yet elegant basketry stitch that was at the heart of the Alice Springs project.

Join Kirrily on 28th July at Wallarobba Art Centre and become part of a story that weaves together art, community, and joy.
