Celebrate Seniors Week At HCC Open Day

Hills Community Care (HCC) celebrated Seniors Week with their annual Open Day at Balcombe Heights Estate, Baulkham Hills.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said that HCC was an invaluable service for aged, frail and disabled residents in the community.

“The array of services on offer at Hills Community Care really is something to be proud of,” Mayor Byrne said.

“As someone who is passionate about mental health, I love knowing that there is a place for our senior residents to go and meet with others, share a cup of tea, lunch, a day out and enjoy each other’s company.”

“There are also services for residents dealing with mental illness, where they are given the opportunity to try their hand at activities that are suitable and beneficial to them.”

“Hills Community Care also administers the local Meals on Wheels service with the help of an army of volunteers.”

The Open Day brought together several Government and community organisations such as NSW Police, the Memory Van, various Council departments as well as the Seniors Rights Service.

Hills Community Care was established 25 years ago as an amalgamation of a variety of local services to be administered by The Hills Shire Council.

“The establishment of HCC in 1991 was part of a co-ordinated effort by various community groups to unite services like Meals on Wheels and Community Transport under one umbrella. Here we are 25 years later with more than 2000 members being served by HCC.”

“In that 25 years, we’ve seen core functions like Meals on Wheels and Community Transport being accompanied by social ethnic groups, day trips and excursions, care for those dealing with dementia and much more.”

Mayor Byrne encouraged Hills residents to consider their family members and whether they would benefit from the many services offered by HCC.

“Many Hills residents remain unaware of the fantastic service on offer that could benefit them or their family members. To find out more, visit hcc.thehills.nsw.gov.au or call (02) 9843 0555.
