All cows are raised on grass for the first 6-12 months of their life, but many producers switch them to grains to fatten up before slaughter. This is called finishing. This unfortunately un-does the health benefits of grass-fed beef, so you should look for labels that state
“100% grass-fed beef”, “grass-finished beef” or “pastured beef”.
Also, “organic beef” does not mean the cows ate grass, rather that they were fed organic grain (and maybe some grass). That’s a step up from GMO feed that most cattle get but does not confer the benefits of a 100% grass diet.
Ideally source your meat from grass-fed animals raised on pasture their entire lives, not given antibiotics or hormones, and sourced from family farms.
Taylor Fine Foods, cows are raised on remote, grassy paddocks in the upper hunter region of NSW and launched their beef packs to the local community at the Arcadian Artists Event where our local Mayor Warren Waddell came to open the show and support the launch of Taylor Fine Foods to the community.
Taylor Fine Foods were also able to support the local Arcadian Public School with Taylor Fine Foods sausages to help their fundraising efforts. It was a fabulous community experience, and we look forward to it again next year.
We were grateful to Clare Oliver opening her property to the public as a gallery venue in the Arcadian Art Trail. If you missed out this year, be sure to come next year on the 2nd weekend of November for a unique country experience!
