Looking for inspiration for a Christmas gift that’s a little more vibrant than the usual summer staples? The Bromeliad Society of Australia is inviting locals to drop by its upcoming meeting at the Federation Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground, on Saturday, 13 December, between 9.30 am and 11 am, where members will showcase an impressive selection of bromeliads ready to brighten any home or garden.

Bromeliads have become a favourite among gardeners for their striking colours, sculptural forms and versatility. With varieties ranging from compact species ideal for balconies and courtyards to larger centrepiece plants suited to pots or feature positions in the garden, there’s something to suit almost any space. Some thrive in shaded spots, others prefer soft morning sun—making them surprisingly easy companions for both new and seasoned plant enthusiasts.
For those unsure which plant to choose, the Society suggests another thoughtful option: an annual membership. At $25 for a single or family electronic subscription—or $35 for posted hard-copy newsletters—members gain access to expert advice, monthly meetings, and a community passionate about sharing knowledge. Applications can be downloaded from the Society’s website.
The Bromeliad Society of Australia has extended its thanks to the many residents who support the group each month, whether by attending meetings or stopping by to purchase plants directly from members. As the year winds down, the Society is wishing the community a Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.
The first meeting for 2026 will be held on Saturday 10 January at 9.30am, with gardeners of all experience levels welcome.
Happy gardening!
