It is wonderful when all the elements of a much-anticipated, big event align and combine to create a simply perfect day.
Such was the Bobbin Head Cycle Classic on Sunday, March 26 when, in the middle of weeks of wet weather, the sun shone, the rain stayed away and 2480 cyclists from around Sydney gathered at Turramurra to ride the spectacular course through Ku-ring- gai National Park, Bobbin Head and, for the really energetic, West Head.
It was a day that brought smiles to the faces of all who took part and much gratitude from the charities that will benefit from this logistically-challenging fundraising event, which raised an amazing $200,000.
Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury is the major beneficiary and event partner with the Rotary clubs of Turramurra, Ku-ring- gai, Wahroonga and St Ives. Their enthusiasm in founding the event – and planning the four rides with differing degrees of difficulty – was supported by the indispensable services of police, who facilitated road closures and redirected traffic, as well as the SES and ambulance who were on hand in case of any incidents. I’m delighted to report there was only one minor incident and that did not require ambulance intervention.
The Bobbin Head Cycle Classic is now in its sixth year and has become a community event that generates bountiful goodwill from small businesses and residents en route, from cyclists, fundraisers, volunteers in abundance (400 of them) and our generous sponsors.
We can’t thank you enough. As a result, we’re already looking forward to our seventh “Bobbo”. We hope you are too.
