Autumn Walks

Now that the hot weather has subsided, it’s a great time to undertake some local walks. Being so close to the Great North Walk (which goes from Sydney to Newcastle), its a great opportunity to do some sections when you have time.

If you don’t want to mess around with organising pick ups or drop offs, the Thornleigh to Hornsby is a great option as you can start at Hornsby station and finish at Thornleigh Station and return to your car by train.

This trail is around 10km in length and travels through some beautiful bushland, including Fishponds and the Blue Gum Trail. If you don’t want to end your walk walking up lots of steps, then start at Hornsby and walk to Thornleigh. The walk is considered moderately challenging. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.

There are some creek crossings, so maybe don’t go after lots of rain. Leeches can also be more common after rain. The walk goes through Berowra Valley National Park and the feedback on All Trails App is that the trail is well maintained but good walking shoes are recommended.

An offline map is recommended as there are some other walks that cross this trail and you don’t want to head off in the wrong direction. Time for moderately fit people is 3-4 hours.
