As Australia’s new Shadow Minister for the Arts, I’m committed to supporting local artists, fostering creativity, and recognising emerging and established talent alike.
Berowra has a proud and longstanding tradition of grassroots creativity, from community theatre and music groups to school bands and local exhibitions.
The Normanhurst Uniting Church Musical Society, Berowra Musical Society, Dural Musical Society, Hornsby Musical Society, Oakhill College’s Jesus Christ Superstar and the Asquith Boys High MAD Night are some exemplars of the strength and diversity of our local arts scene that I’ve recently had the pleasure of attending.
Each year, our community is privileged see this creativity firsthand through school productions, community performances, and local shows, and I continue to be inspired by the passion and talent on display.
This is why, over the past nine years, I’ve been proud to support these efforts through local grants and recognition in Parliament.
What we still need however, a stronger, more deliberate pathway for artists of all ages to develop their skills, connect with mentors, and share their work beyond the school hall or community stage.
We owe it to our creative community to ensure those opportunities exist. Supporting the arts means backing our community and giving local talent the chance to thrive.
Together, we can support and nurture our wealth of local talent and see communities across Berowra become even more renowned for their artistic strengths.
