Australia Day 2026 in Hawkesbury

Australia Day on the Hawkesbury will return on Monday, 26 January 2026, with Hawkesbury City Council hosting a family-friendly community event at Governor Phillip Park in Windsor.

The event will run from 5 pm to 9 pm and will feature a range of activities and entertainment along the Hawkesbury River. The program will open with a Welcome to Country and cultural dance performance.

The evening’s highlight will be the return of the thong-throwing championship, now in its fourth year. Junior, adult and emergency services competitions will be held, with participants able to register at the Council tent on the day.

The Ultimate Cricket Game will also return following its 2025 debut, with team sign-ups available on the evening and the competition scheduled to begin at 6.30 pm.

Live entertainment will be presented throughout the night on an outdoor stage, with Farmer Dave returning as event MC. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display at 9 pm.

Council says there will also be a global food court, carnival rides, free face painting, emergency services displays, a quiet sensory space, accessible facilities and an inclusive play space within Governor Phillip Park. On-site parking will be available.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and chairs to enjoy the riverside setting, however portable shelters will not be permitted due to safety considerations.

The event is dog-friendly, with dogs required to be kept on a lead at all times, and owners advised to be mindful of fireworks’ impact on animals.

In addition to the community celebrations, Hawkesbury City Council will mark Australia Day with an Australia Day Awards Ceremony and a Citizenship Ceremony at the Council Administration Building.

Further event updates will be available on Council’s website and the Hawkesbury Events Facebook page.
