Small Schools, Strong Communities: Celebrating Learning and Growth

Arcadia Public School has hit Term 3 running, with a calendar packed full of events celebrating learning, creativity, and community. Book Week was a particular highlight, with local author Di Hedges visiting to talk about her children’s book Floki: The Story of a Fluffy Little Rescue Chihuahua. Students were captivated as Hedges shared the inspiration behind her story and offered insights into her creative process.

The excitement continued with the school’s annual Book Parade, where students dressed as some of their favourite literary characters. Reading is clearly a priority at Arcadia, where the school library serves as a bustling hub for exploration and discovery. One Kindergarten student described the festivities as “the best day at school ever!”

Arcadia Public’s celebrations extended beyond Book Week with its Open Day, showcasing the school’s commitment to “Igniting the Potential” of every student. Visitors were treated to performances by the School Band and Choir, before enjoying poetry presentations from every class, featuring works ranging from Banjo Paterson to Hairy Maclary. Students embraced the dramatic aspects of their readings, while classrooms displayed a variety of learning achievements, from written work to digital projects and creative displays. The day concluded with a relaxed morning tea on the school’s expansive grounds.

Sporting events have also been a focus, with the Small Schools Athletics Carnival providing a platform for collaboration with neighbouring schools. The carnival highlighted the community spirit and sportsmanship that small schools like Arcadia foster, ensuring every student has the opportunity to participate and succeed.

Arcadia students are also making their mark in academic competitions, taking part in the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee, NSW Premier’s Debating Challenge, online ICAS assessments, and the Australasian Problem Solving Maths Olympiad Maths Game competition. These initiatives offer students opportunities to extend their learning and challenge themselves across a variety of disciplines.

The school is now welcoming applications for Kindergarten 2026. Families interested in enrolling or arranging a private tour are encouraged to contact the school office on 9653-1207.
