On a glorious winter’s day, Arcadia Public School marked Public Education Week and Book Week with an Open Day and Book Parade.
The festivities began with captivating performances by our Junior and Senior bands. Some of our junior band have only been playing a musical instrument for six months, their performance was impressive in front of the live audience. Our senior students played next, delivering a more complex musical piece that showcased their advanced skills, thanks to Mr. Josh McNulty from Teaching Services Dural, who leads our band program.
The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Natalie Crouch, continued the celebration with a performance that highlighted the diverse talents and opportunities at Arcadia Public School.
Kindergarten students opened our ‘Reading is Magic’ Book Parade, bringing beloved book characters to life. The parade featured Mary Poppins, Bo Peep, Batman, Harry Potter, a pirate, international football players, and even a couple of Where’s Wally characters. This vibrant display of imagination underscored the joy and educational value of reading. Reading is the pathway to imagination, knowledge and learning about other perspectives in life. As Dr. Seuss said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Subsequent class presentations included dramatizations of popular books such as “What’s in My Lunchbox?” by Peter Carnavas, “Imagine” by Alison Lester, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” by Roald Dahl, and “Thelma the Unicorn” by Aaron Blabey. These productions allowed our theatrical students to showcase their talents.
After the performances, guests explored our classrooms, observing the dynamic learning environment. The day concluded with a delightful Teddy Bears’ picnic on our spacious grounds, where the community gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements and enjoy each other’s company. We would like to thank our community members who attended and supported our school. It was truly a joyous occasion and we enjoyed seeing the happiness on the children’s faces.
This successful event was made possible by our dedicated team of teachers and school administrative and support staff, whose hard work inspires every student to achieve their personal best. We are very lucky to have such a collaborative, cohesive team of teachers who genuinely care about every student and work hard to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to ‘Be Outstanding and Be Inspired.’
