The Queen’s Scout Award is the highest award in the Venturer Scout section and carries an outstanding reputation within Scouting and the Community world-wide. Alexis Taylor joins the list of over 40 Queen’s Scout recipients at 1st Dural since 1963.
Alexis started with the 1st Dural Group in Cubs, earned her Grey Wolf badge, and then after moving to Scouts she stayed as a volunteer helper with the Cubs Section.
Her Special Interest Activity badges included challenges across a variety of life skills – from cooking, driving, self-defence and art making, through to home maintenance and handywork. Alexis’ interest in being a valued member of her local community also saw her join the local Rural Fire Service as a Junior member – then staying on to become a fully qualified firefighter.
In her time in Scouting, she has been to family camps, Cuborees, Jamborettes, and District Camps. More recently she’s ventured out camping across many parts of NSW – from hiking the Snowy Mountains through to her Adventurous Journey which saw her complete the first of several multi-day hikes along the beautiful NSW coast. She’s also completed her First Aid qualification and her Surf Lifesaving Bronze Medallion.
Always full of exciting ideas, Alexis sets a great example of personal development and what can be achieved with the ‘life skills’ that Scouting offers.
Each year only a few Venturer Scouts achieve this prestigious award, which is presented by the Governor and Chief Scout of New South Wales, as a representative of the King, at Government House. Alexis is looking forward to the ceremony later this month.
Dural Scout Group has vacancies for Girls and Boys from 5 to 25 years. Joeys (5yo), Cubs (8yo), Scouts (12yo) and Venturers (16yo).
