CELEBRATING AUSSIE THEATRE IN THE HEART OF THE HILLS
Australian theatre-craft and performance will take centre stage in the heart of Sydney’s Hills District for the inaugural Pioneer Play Festival at Castle Hill’s new Pioneer Theatre this November 23rd-24th.
The Pioneer Play Festival will bring together Sydney’s theatre community, schools and locals for two days of new and pioneering Australian plays, workshops and panel discussions celebrating the inaugural theme ‘Australian Voices’.
Curated by Artistic Director Goldele Rayment the festival will present a dedicated school’s program alongside a festival program that includes the Sydney premiere of Felix Nobis’ Boy Out of the Country, a searingly funny story of contemporary Australian family, urban development and the progress of life; and a special 50th Anniversary performance of Alex Buzo’s controversial exploration of race, culture and identity – Norm and Ahmed.
The festival will also incorporate the inaugural Pioneer Play Awards, a thrilling new playwriting competition that will recognise an outstanding local young writer (10-17 years) and an adult writer (18+) with a cash prize, staged performances and glamorous Mayoral reception.
