Andrew Hansen visits Hills Grammar

There was no hint of political satire when comedian, musician, author and Hills Grammar alumnus Andrew Hansen and his partner (and illustrator) Jessica Roberts launched their new book Bab Sharkey and the Animal Mummies: The Weird Beard to an appreciative audience of Year 5 and 6 Hills Grammar students. Teachers and students were captivated as Andrew and Jessica read excerpts from their book (complete with funny voices), performed some songs and shared their experience of the creative process involved in creating their children’s book.

Nexus Co-ordinator, Robyn Evans said, “I think they were amazing. They were very entertaining as they read, sang and interacted with the students. It was exciting to have Andrew return to the school after being School Captain of the class of 1992.”

Students Ramya and Sarah found the visit very exciting. ”It was cool to see two famous authors coming to visit us at our school. The way they read the chapters really made me want to buy the book. We liked how they included music in their book. It was interesting how they were able to stick Egyptian beliefs and the afterlife into their book which was the most appealing feature of the book.”

10 Year old Joel was so enthralled by the book, he couldn’t wait to get through his school readers and dive back into the world of Bab Sharkey “…it grabs you between the eyes and doesn’t let go”. He finished the book within a couple of days and is eagerly waiting for the next book due in November.
