My story could be as ‘dull as dishwater’ but I was so dreaming of a shiny, stainless steel kitchen sink…
To make more sense of this, let me fill you in. For some time now I have been championing for a kitchen sink and running water to be installed in the Friends of Fagan Park’s lunch room without success.
Such a simple, staple item of every household is non existent, meaning that water must be collected from a nearby tap into a bucket and decanted into a plastic camp sink every time we need to wash up kitchen items.
Sometimes we have to take home items to wash. It’s reminiscent of living back in the 1900’s when it was a routine job of collecting water for chores around the homestead for the Fagan family!
But it was not just a mere pipe dream. At our Friends’ Christmas function last year, I received a surprise Christmas gift from my fellow volunteers…a second hand stainless steel kitchen sink with a lovely yellow ribbon.
I was absolutely delighted and there was lots of laughter and merriment as everyone knew just how much I had been sinking about something more substantial to wash the dishes in, and it was a double sink complete with mixer tap!
The next and most important step is to have my sink installed and fully functional for future use, something that the Friends of Fagan Park are hoping will eventually happen sometime in 2026.
