While some mark Valentine’s Day with roses and chocolates, public libraries around the world celebrate Library Lovers’ Day on February 14, recognising the important role libraries play in their communities.
In 2026, Hawkesbury Library Service will share the love with a week-long program of events at Hawkesbury Central Library.
From Thursday 12 to Thursday 19 February, the library will host a pop-up Library Lovers’ Week Book Sale. Visitors can browse a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books, as well as DVDs, with a special focus on romance titles.
All items will be priced affordably, offering a great chance to add a few new favourites to home shelves.
On Friday 13 February, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, popular author Susannah Fullerton returns to Hawkesbury Central Library for a talk on her latest book, Great Writers and the Cats Who Owned Them.
The session explores the surprising influence cats have had on some of history’s most well-known writers, blending literary history, biography and feline stories. Following her well-attended talk at the library last December, the event is expected to draw strong interest.
The celebrations wrap up on Thursday 19 February with a live-streamed event from the State Library as part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival. Hawkesbury Central Library will be a partner venue for the sold-out Mardi Gras Debate, Heterosexuality is a Cult.
Hosted by Yumi Stynes, the debate features writers Dylin Hardcastle, Jess Hill, Benjamin Law, Maeve Marsden, Jess McGuire and Daniel Nour in a lively and humorous discussion. The event will run from 6.00 pm to 7.15 pm and offers a relaxed way for the community to celebrate Mardi Gras locally.
