Resignation of Hornsby Shire Council General Manager

Hornsby Shire Council has officially announced the resignation of General Manager Steven Head, who stepped down from his position following a meeting on November 12. Head, who has served in the role since 2018, cited personal reasons for his departure.

During his six-year tenure, Head made a notable impact on the Shire, drawing on his extensive experience from senior roles within metropolitan Sydney councils and the NSW Government. Under his leadership, the Council achieved significant milestones, including the development of the Hornsby Town Centre Masterplan and the ambitious Hornsby Park project, both of which have fundamentally transformed the local landscape.

Head was instrumental in creating strategic frameworks like “Your Vision Your Future,” the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), and the review of the Local Environmental Plan (LEP). His initiatives also led to the introduction of an organizational leadership program, the successful adoption of a Special Rate Variation, and enhanced customer service and technology systems within the Council.

Throughout his tenure, Head maintained a focus on financial sustainability, ensuring that the Council remained in a strong financial position, even amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and severe weather events. Mayor Warren Waddell praised Head’s contributions, stating, “Steven Head has been a dedicated and thoughtful leader, helping to strengthen Hornsby Shire’s reputation for sound financial management and delivering projects that have enriched our community. We are grateful for his service and wish him all the very best in the next chapter of his journey.

“Following Head’s departure, the Council has appointed Glen Magus, currently the Director of Corporate Support, as Acting General Manager. Magus is expected to bring continuity and stability to the Council during this transition period. The Council expressed gratitude for Head’s years of dedicated service and emphasized their respect for his privacy as he moves forward.
