The Dural Bowling Club community is mourning the loss of long-serving member Nick Sheerin, who passed away on 25 August 2025. A familiar figure on the greens for decades, Sheerin was still competing this year and finished runner-up in the Triples competition, a testament to his enduring skill and love for the game.
Family, friends, and fellow bowlers gathered to honour his life at the Galston Club on 14 November, sharing memories of a man remembered for his steady presence, sportsmanship, and warm humour.
Despite the sadness of recent weeks, the club has continued its calendar of events, including the Living Choice Carnival held on Monday, 20 October. The day drew a small but enthusiastic field of 12 teams and delivered a lively atmosphere marked by friendly rivalry and plenty of social connection. The winning team hailed from Pennant Hills, rounding out a successful carnival made possible thanks to the support of sponsor Living Choice, the Match Committee, their partners, and the dedicated umpire overseeing play.
Another season highlight unfolded on 28 October during the Women’s Major Singles Final, where Lyn Luxford and Kate Liu delivered a gripping contest. Luxford secured her first major title, with Liu pushing her throughout a match praised for its high standard and sportsmanship. The Men’s Major Singles semifinals are set for Saturday, 15 November, marking the final tournament on the club’s competitive calendar for 2025.
Members will close out the year with the annual Christmas Lunch on Saturday, 13 December, followed by the presentation of awards recognising the champions and runners-up across the season’s competitions. With a strong community spirit and a welcoming culture, Dural Bowling Club remains open to newcomers. Those interested in giving bowls a try are encouraged to contact Robert on 0411 375 580.
