If you or someone you care for receives help through My Aged Care, there’s a big change coming on 1 November 2025. The new Support at Home program will replace the current Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) systems.
This change is designed to make life easier – fewer layers, clearer choices, and more flexibility to get the help you need. It’s all part of the new Aged Care Act 2024, which puts your rights and independence front and centre.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT
• You’ll have one main support level, plus short-term options when you need them – like Restorative Care, End-of-Life Care, or Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM).
• Funding will be handled quarterly, so services can be adjusted more easily.
• Assistive Technology and Home Mods – things like walkers, beds, and grab rails – will have their own funding stream, separate from daily care.
• You can register a trusted supporter to help with decisions, while keeping full control yourself.
• Fees and contributions stay capped by government rules.
HOW TO GET READY
Now’s a great time to:
1. Check your My Aged Care details and update your contacts.
2. Review your care plan with your provider in simple English.
3. Note any equipment or home modification needs before November.
