Hills United FC have more celebrations after their FNSW League 1 Women’s coach Allan Tasses and star players Isabella Sciberras and Portia Berios were honoured by Football NSW, at the end of the club’s best season.
Tasses took out the Coach of the Year honours for his leadership and outstanding results in 2025. Under his astute coaching, Hills United won the double in the FNSW Women’s One competition with a near flawless record.
Hills United will compete in the NPL Women’s NSW competition from next season. They also won the U23 title and the overall Club Championship this season.
“To be named Coach of the Year is humbling with so many quality coaches in this league,” Tasses said. “This award is really about the culture we’ve built, it’s about the players who bought into the vision, the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and the supporters who believed in us all the way. I’m proud to accept it on behalf of everyone connected to Hills United.”
Sciberras was recognised for her leadership and consistency, winning the Player of the Year Award. She has been outstanding for Hills United for several years, and is one of the mainstays.
“Isabella has been immense for us,” Tasses said. “Her leadership, her drive, and her ability to influence games in critical moments have set her apart. This award is a reward for her professionalism, her commitment and the standard she sets for the entire team.”
Berios won the U20/Reserve Grade Golden Boot for theFNSW League 1 Women U23 competition for the second successive time.
“Portia is a natural finisher, But what people don’t always see is the work she puts in at training, the extra runs, the hunger to improve,” Tasses said. “She thrives under pressure and has delivered for us time and time again. To see her efforts recognised with back to back Golden Boot awards is extremely fantastic.
YEARS OF HARD WORK
Tasses said to win the double and earn promotion is something truly special: “It’s not just about one season, it’s about years of hard work from everyone in the club to get us here. We’ve made history, and we’ve shown that Hills United belongs at the highest level. That’s what makes me proudest.
“The next chapter will bring new challenges; this is the beginning of a new journey. The NPL is another level, and we’ll need to keep improving, but with the spirit this group has, I have no doubt we’ll rise to the challenge. We want to keep building something the Hills community can be proud of.
“For myself, my assistant Paul and all the staff/players this season was about more than trophies; it was about setting a standard, proving what’s possible, and laying the foundation for an even brighter future.”
Hawkesbury City FC and Nepean FC were recognised for their overall performances winning the FNSW League 2 Men and FNSW League I Women’s Fair Play awards, respectively.
They, along with the other award winners across all divisions, were honoured at the recent Football NSW annual Gala Awards Dinner in Randwick.
