Term 3 has started with great energy and enthusiasm at Arcadia Public School. Our book week celebrations featured a special visit from local author, Di Hedges, who shares her book Floki: The Story of a Fluffy Little Rescue Chihuahua and offered students a fascinating insight in her creative process.
The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about how Di developed her story, and the excitement continued with our vibrant Book Parade, where students dressed as a variety of beloved characters. Reading is highly valued at Arcadia, and our fabulous library is a hub where students are encouraged to explore and borrow regularly. One Kindergarten student summed it up perfectly, saying this event was “the best day at school ever!” It was truly a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of books and reading.
Our celebrations extended beyond Book Week as we proudly hosted our Open Day. At Arcadia Public, we are committed to ‘Igniting the Potential’ of every student, and this was clearly on display throughout the day. Our talented School Band and Choir delighted the audience with their performances, showcasing the dedication that small schools foster in every student. Each class collaborated to present poetry ranging from classic works by Banjo Paterson to the playful verses of Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy.
The students embraced the dramatic elements of their presentations with enthusiasm. Visitors then had the opportunity to explore classrooms and witness firsthand the breadth of learning taking place—from written work to digital projects and creative displays. The event concluded with a lovely morning tea enjoyed on our expansive and picturesque school grounds.
The Small Schools Athletics Carnival, held in partnership with neighbouring local schools, was another highlight. This event beautifully demonstrated the spirit of collaboration and creativity that small schools bring to supporting every student’s participation and success. It was a fantastic celebration of community and sportsmanship shared by all.
Arcadian students have also been actively participating in a variety of competitions, including the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee, NSW Premier’s Debating Challenge, online ICAS assessments, and the Australasian Problem Solving Maths Olympiad Maths Game competition. These opportunities help to extend learning and challenge our students in diverse ways.
We are now welcoming 2026 applications for Kindergarten enrolments. Families interested in learning more or arranging a private tour of our outstanding school are encouraged to contact our friendly office staff on 9653-1207.
