Galston Garden Club Hosts Talk on Bonsai Trees

Bonsai Trees will take centre stage at the Galston District Garden Club’s upcoming September meeting, as members and visitors look forward to a diverse line-up of horticultural events leading into spring.

The club, which meets at the Galston Community Centre on the second Wednesday of each month, continues to attract strong community interest. August’s gathering featured guest speaker Ian Hook, who captivated attendees with an in-depth presentation on Bromeliads. In September, renowned bonsai specialist Clinton Nesci will address the club, offering insights into the art and discipline of miniature tree cultivation.

Beyond its monthly meetings, the club is also gearing up for one of its largest annual attractions — the Galston Open Garden Weekend, scheduled for October 17–19. This year’s event will showcase eight expansive acreage gardens across Kenthurst, Dural, Galston and Arcadia. Despite their size, many of the garden design elements on display can be scaled and adapted to suit smaller suburban spaces, making the event valuable for gardeners of all experience levels.

Visitors can expect an array of plant species, from eye-catching flowering shrubs and feature trees to tranquil water elements and thoughtfully designed garden architecture. Each property reflects its owner’s creativity, with layouts tailored to the natural landscape and individual aesthetic preferences.

Tickets will be available during the event at the Galston Club (21 Arcadia Road) or at each participating garden. A $25 all-garden pass grants access to all sites over the full three days, while single-garden entry is $5 per person. Children under 18 are admitted free. Attendees are encouraged to bring cash for garden entry, although EFTPOS facilities will be available at the Galston Club and at Garden 4, where plant stalls and morning and afternoon teas will also be offered.

Organised by the Galston District Garden Club, the Open Garden Weekend is a significant local charity event, with all proceeds distributed to community organisations and charities selected by participating garden owners.
