Arcadian Quilting

This WINTER the Arcadian Group is enjoying a “fresh look” at what we consider to be something that is … comforting, reassuring and reliable.

YES, ‘the members’ of the quilting group. We are looking and listening to each other. President Carole decided to encourage members to share their background stories in a QUILTING HISTORY CHAT during our meetings.

Where did their quilting story start; what was the ‘first quilt’ project attempted, was it ever finished and where is that ‘first quilt’ now’?

Our members have come from a very wide variety of backgrounds, commerce, teaching, nursing, banking, librarianship … for examples.

Quilting History:  Members Share Powerful Stories

This amazingly colourful quilt (picture top) titled “Gypsy Wife” was made by our resident Librarian Chris. This kaleidoscope of medallions also made by Chris is a hand-pieces la Passacaglia quilt by Dutch designer Willyne Hammerstein.

This intricate design is also known as a Millefiore quilt, an interpretation of Venetian Millefiori Glass, meaning “a thousand flowers”.

This is proving to be such an interesting way to enjoy our days together and leads to quite different conversations at the ‘sewing table’.

We meet at the Community Health Centre, Galston, 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month.
