A resident recently suggested we take a look at some odd black staining around the base of trees and running down hill at the side of the small hut on Hayes Oval where many local children play soccer and softball.
We took the following photos which do look as if some black waste has been spilled and washed down the hill. We also were alerted to some items disposed of in the nearby rubbish bins.
The items in the bin indicate that the stains may be Xtreme Black Concentrate Marking Liquid. The product information sheet did identify the product as non-hazardous, but further down it said that if the product was spilled and could contaminate water courses then local emergency services should be advised.
We have raised this issue with Hornsby Council and we will publish the results of our investigations next issue.
