Members of 1st Dural Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts recently returned from an incredible 17-day adventure in Japan, where we were immersed in the country’s rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landmarks.
This trip gave us a chance to experience different cultures through unique opportunities ranging from visiting the famous snow monkeys to staying in a Japanese ryokan house.
Over the course of our visit, we explored Japan’s renowned shrines and temples, each one telling a story of tradition and spirituality. From the stunning Meiji Shrine in Tokyo to the serene Namba Yasaka Shrine in Osaka, we marvelled at the beauty and history surrounding these sacred spaces.
We also saw Mt Fuji on the bullet train, visited the amazing Ghibli Museum, as well as many bustling markets where we sampled delicious local street food, from savory takoyaki to sweet mochi. Throughout the journey, we had the chance to bond with each other and the local community.
Beyond sightseeing, the trip gave us a chance to be independent. We navigated public transport, managed daily schedules, and made decisions about activities, all while developing confidence. However, the experience was far from solitary—every step of the way, we were supported by our amazing Leaders.
