We invited local photographer Clare Oliver of Arcadia to come and photograph our farm stay property at The Rise Longford at Falkland, NSW. Clare shows a passion for the outdoors, people and animals and she really is the instrument behind the lens.
After a full afternoon capturing the property highlights, Gloucester riverside and the outdoor woodfire spa at dusk we make our way back to the house, to sit down for wine. I take a bite of my scone, fresh from the oven, as I take in the kitchen, which has a cozy farmhouse vibe but with modern amenities.
A feature of the Rise Longford Farmhouse Kitchen and Loungeroom are the custom-made antler lights from Rapid Effects. The designer is Joel Fulton, and he hand made these bespoke sustainable pieces in his workshop in Glenorie. I was able to choose these pieces from a large range in his Glenorie Showroom.
This was a real experience in itself and I learned firsthand how all his products are ethically and sustainably sourced. It is wonderful to connect with local designers and be involved in the process of design.
The Rise Longford farmhouse is becoming a real sanctuary and a place where art and nature come together.
At The Rise Longford, most of our heat comes from our woodburning fireplace. It’s important to us to lessen our use of electricity and be more self-sufficient, noting that all the wood is from Taylor Firewood recycled from fallen trees and is available for guests to use during their stay.
The Rise Longford Farmhouse is a real unplug and unwind retreat, complete with a welcoming firepit in the backyard that is also home to another piece of art from Dave Hayes of Metanical Industries. Dave created this handmade Botanical Rose piece for us from his workshop in Dural. We commissioned this piece after seeing it on display at the Arcadian Artists late last year. I’m already excited to go again this year to look for another outdoor piece to add to the adventure.
“Art is an important part of life”, Jennifer explains. “It’s the environment you create for yourself. People often say they’re not artists, but I believe everyone is an artist in their own way. If we think about it quite literally art encompasses everything we do – what we eat, how we speak, and how we live.” And it shows… all around us at The Rise Longford. From the house to the grounds to the river.
