It’s time to start preparing for a chemical clean out!
The Hawkesbury City Council’s free annual Household Chemical CleanOut will be held on Sunday, 18 August 2024, from 9 am to 3:30 pm at Hawkesbury Showground, Racecourse Road, Clarendon, entry via Gate 1.
It’s a great chance for Hawkesbury residents to look through their homes and sheds for any old chemicals that should be disposed of safely. Improve home safety by removing old gas bottles, unused chemicals, and fuels.
This also prevents fire hazards and protects the environment and waterways by responsibly disposing of potentially hazardous household chemicals.
Since 2014, more than 220,000kg of chemical waste has been dropped off as part of Chemical CleanOuts.
The items accepted at drop-off are:
- household cleaners and solvents
- handheld batteries, car batteries
- fluorescent globes and tubes
- paint
- pesticides, herbicides, poisons
- gas bottles
- smoke detectors, fire extinguishers
- pool chemicals. hobby chemicals
- acids and alkalis
- motor oils, fuels and fluids.
Only household quantities of chemicals are accepted (20L or 20kg), except paint. Up to 100L (in 20L containers) of paint is accepted. Further information is available at www.cleanout.com.au or call the NSW EPA on 131 555.
For those who cannot attend the Hawkesbury Chemical Cleanout, Chemical CleanOut events are held across Sydney and in NSW on various dates and are open to everyone, being a local resident is not required.
