Warrah Society hosted its fifth annual Spring Fair on the 8th September. With the welcome rain came the lovely sound of squelching feet! This time visitors were given the chance to appreciate more of Warrah’s campus than ever before.
Along with boutique market stalls, an organic BBQ, international food, white elephant stall and recycled fashion, an art and craft exhibition; there were craft activities, pony rides and a jumping castle. The stage performances brought a real sense of community and enjoyment throughout the day – and provided everyone with a chance to get involved and have a good time.
Many visitors enjoyed a tour of our Biodynamic Farm and delicious food tastings at the Farm Shop, which launched some new products (fresh organic meat, a range of books and some new lines from boutique organic food producers).
Chief Executive Officer of Warrah, Georgina Michaelis said, “All of us are overwhelmed by the amount of support that we received from people and organisations for this year’s Spring Fair. We had a record attendance, an amazing 141 volunteers helping on the day; and donations from over 40 local businesses.” Funds raised from the Warrah Spring Fair benefit people with a disability through Warrah’s innovative projects.
After all the fun of the Fair, it is back to the wonderful bustle that characterises spring on a farm. We are cultivating new beds with compost ready for planting zucchini and cucumber. There are still leeks, Dutch carrots; gorgeous bunches of beetroot, salad mix, coriander, parsley, grapefruit, chard and kale being harvested. It is always exciting to do the first pick of a crop you have been nursing. Now we have beautiful strawberries, sugar snaps and snow peas. Along with the cucumbers and zucchinis in the nursery, there are rainbow cherry tomatoes that have just been re-potted. They are going to look amazing in your summer salads!
