TSUNAMI THREAT UPDATE – Bureau of Meteorology – 12:00AM, Sunday 16th January
Sea level observations have confirmed a tsunami has been generated.
NORFOLK ISLAND – LAND THREAT – Threat of Major land inundation, flooding, dangerous rips, waves and strong ocean currents. People in affected land threat areas are strongly advised to go to higher ground or move inland. If you cannot leave, take shelter in the upper storey of a brick or concrete multi-storey building. Waves of 1.27m were observed.
LORD HOWE ISLAND – LAND THREAT – Threat of Major land inundation, flooding, dangerous rips, waves and strong ocean currents. Wave heights of 1.10m continue at Neds Beach. People in affected land threat areas should go to higher ground or move inland. If you cannot leave, take shelter in the upper storey of a brick or concrete multi-storey building.
NSW COAST – MARINE THREAT – For the marine environment overall coastal areas of NSW, there is the possibility of dangerous rips, waves and strong ocean currents, and some localised overflow onto the immediate foreshore. Evacuations are not necessary at this time, however, remain away from the immediate water’s edge.
